The MB00 Collection consists of ten works that began with the creation of MB00 - Sculpture to establish the materials, proportions and joinery for the nine furniture pieces that followed. The wood used to construct the series was reclaimed from a black walnut tree felled after reaching the end of its life-cycle, from the Carolinian forest of New Hamburg, ON. The walnut was carefully processed from green logs to dressed boards, so that each piece reflects a continuous segment of the tree. The use of the whole tree, including heart and sap wood, results in wider variations in wood grain and colour. Mortises, recessed through tenons and paper cord are used to compose fully biodegradable objects – thereby anticipating the return of the furniture to the forest floor.
